Grenson Shoes For centuries the county of Northamptonshire has been recognized as the home of the English shoemakers` art. William Green founded Grenson shoes at Rushden in 1866. His overriding aim was to satisfy customers with the best shoes and boots made in England. His philosophy was `Quality First and Customer First` and, over 130 years later, that pursuit of excellence is undiminished.

Grenson`s craftsmen are still proud to display their skill, as they handcraft shoes to the very highest standards. Today a Grenson Rose shoe is, as it was always intended to be, one of the finest examples of English shoe-making. In an age where, unfortunately, people as well as products are `processed`, Grenson shoes radiates a unique and personal quality, which translates into a customer experience of `made, or done especially for me`.

Grenson footwear impresses with its elegant, harmonious appearance. The look and the feel of the materials is deeply satisfying. There is an ambience to a Grenson shoe which reflects the assurance of many decades of accomplished craftsmanship. The feel, the fit and the experience of wearing a pair of Grenson shoes is always a delight with every shoe leather lined.

Grenson Leathers

Grenson buyers reject almost 9 out of 10 skins offered to them. For example, they will never buy the hide of a French calf born in February when the flying insects of the Camargue will make a lasting impression the skin of a young animal. Similarly, they will not use kid which has grazed on the higher slopes of the Greek hills, because the constant craning in search of food results in unsightly stretch marks on the animals` neck. Grenson work with a vast variety of leathers, but those used on our instock range are:

Calf The skin of very young cattle which offers fine grain, suppleness and exceptional durability; a versatile leather that can be used for virtually every type of shoe.
Kid The skin of young goats which offers fine grain and suppleness; predominantly used for casual and lighter weight shoes.
Nappa Skins, normally from lambs, which are remarkably soft and supple; primarily used for shoes where comfort is the key.
Patent Fine grain leather is specially treated with polyurethane to create an exceptional gloss finish, especially suitable for evening wear; patent leather can also be used in conjunction with other leathers to produce eye-catching results.
Full grain Skins where only the hair has been removed, leaving the natural surface grain unchanged.
Suede Leather where the underside of the skin is buffed to give an attractive textured appearance.
