It was in 1880 that Thomas, John and William Loake opened a factory in Northamptonshire, the heart of the English shoemaking industry. They were determined to provide the most handsome, comfortable and durable shoes in the country at prices which, while reflecting the quality of the materials and workmanship, would nevertheless be reassuringly reasonable.
This same philosophy drives Loake Bros today, although their market and reputation have now travelled worldwide, far beyond the borders of Northamptonshire. The majority of their footwear is still manufactured in England.
To craft a pair of Goodyear Welted Loake shoes can take up to eight weeks. Loake only the very highest quality materials, sourced from around the globe, and these materials are rigorously inspected for the slightest flaw. Some 170 skilled crafts people, 50 shoe parts and 200 different operations are involved in the manufacturing process, with stringent quality control procedures applied at every stage. The result is a standard of footwear that most shoemakers can only aspire to.
